Summer Placements

An 8-week summer internship is a compulsory course requirement of the two year Post-Graduate Programme in Management. Every student of the course is expected to work in the industry for a period of two months, during the summer months of April and May, after completing the first year of the academic program.

The Summer Placement process is held to help the students find internships and at the same time, help recruiters find students to intern with their firms and is typically held in the month of November every year.

The purpose of the summer internship is to give students an opportunity to apply management concepts learned during the first year to a live project, so that they can better understand and analyze real world business problems. The internship also serves to give students a flavor of the industry they are working in, which helps them in taking decisions about their long-term career paths, while also giving firms a chance to evaluate candidates in a more relaxed environment and find the right fit for their firms.

Selection is typically based on personal interviews on campus. The summer intern works under the counsel of a company executive(company project guide) who supervises and evaluates the performance of the student during his/her summer internship and sends feedback on the same to the institute. The summer intern needs to submit a copy of the feedback from the company project guide and the project report to the institute. The summer project is equivalent to one course for students of the PGDM programmes and two courses for students of the fellowship (Doctorate) programme.

Lateral Placements

Laterals placements are chiefly meant for candidates with more extensive work experience. Candidates with more than 10 months of work experience only are eligible for the Lateral Recruitment process. Lateral Placements at IIMs starts a month or two before the final placements. The candidates selected by the companies for Lateral placement are offered senior and middle-management positions.

Final Placements

During the final placements process, students are recruited for permanent, full-time positions with various firms and all students are allowed to apply, regardless of whether they have prior work experience or not. The final placement process takes place in the month of March every year, at the end of the 2 year course

The final placement process mirrors the summer placement process in that it is also conducted in a day format, in which firms are invited on campus on a particular day on which the firms can choose candidates.
