Instructions And Information On The Application Procedure
Please contact your referees early and initiate the referral process to ensure that they submit the recommendation online within the due date. An application without the complete sets of referrals will be considered as incomplete.
- You are advised to go through the detailed eligibility and admissions criteria.
- For the SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD, need to upload / submit the copy of the recent/latest certificate.
- You may choose to apply to a maximum of two areas from the nine choices. However, there is no need to pay a second fee.
Applicants are requested to fill up the referral information carefully. Referee Information has to furnish in the online application form. Once submitted, referee details cannot be changed. Two recommendations are required (mandatory) for a candidate applying for the Ph.D. Both the referees should be persons who are in a position to comment on your candidature. At least one referee should preferably be a faculty member of a university, college or institution of higher studies and research. The application will be treated as incomplete without these two recommendation details ONCE THE REFEREE DETAILS ARE SUBMITTED, THE REFEREES WILL RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH THE LOGIN CREDENTIALS, WHERE THEY HAVE TO GIVE THE RECOMMENDATION ONLINE. NO HARD COPY OF THE RECOMMENDATION IS ACCEPTED.
Only official email ids of the referees will be accepted. NO, personal email id will be accepted (eg., gmail, yahoo, rediff, hotmail, etc).
- PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU SUBMIT THE REFEREE FORM, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE THE AREA IN WHICH YOU HAVE APPLIED.
- The Application cannot be submitted without the payment of application fee. The SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD applicants (submitting copy of SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PWD certificate) are required to pay an application fee of INR 1000/- and all other applicants are required to pay an application fee of INR 2000/-. Payment can only be made by Credit/Debit Card and Net Banking (electronic fund transfer). A small processing fee (up to approx. INR 30/-) as applicable will be charged by the Bank/Debit Card/Credit Card Company. The INR 1000/- / 2000/- application fee (wherever applicable) is non-refundable and will not be refunded under any circumstances. - Students applying through CAT can only apply with the scores. You may apply after the CAT results are declared.

Please upload any published or unpublished research work which you might have completed. You may give abstracts or summaries if the entire document cannot be uploaded.
ELIGIBILITY
An applicant of the Doctoral Programme is required to have:
EITHER
First Class Master's or Post graduate diploma (2 years) in any discipline and a three-year Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks in the aggregate;
OR
CA with minimum 50% marks or CS/CMA with minimum 55% marks, with B.com degree;
OR
B.Tech/4 year’s degree with 6.5 CGPA or equivalent.
Non-engineering candidates who have undergone 10+2+5 years will be considered eligible to apply for the Doctoral Programme. CMA (USA) candidates are also eligible to apply for the Doctoral Programme.
In addition, applicant must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate in either the Secondary or the Higher Secondary Examination of a Board (or equivalent).
A final-year student appearing for the Bachelor's degree examination in Engineering or Master's degree examination in any discipline can also apply. Such a candidate, if selected, will be provisionally admitted provided (s) he completes all requirements for obtaining the degree before June 30th, 2025. Admission of the candidate will remain provisional until (s) he produces mark sheets proving that (s) he satisfies the eligibility criteria. The deadline for submitting the final year degree mark sheets is December 31st, 2025.
Government of India guidelines for reservation are followed during admissions.
Admissions Criteria:
An applicant can apply to at most two areas of specialization. (S)he needs to have taken the Common Admission Test (CAT) in 2024 OR, depending on chosen specialization(s), alternative test(s) in lieu of the CAT as specified in the following table. The test score(s) should be valid on January 30th, 2025.

# Online GMAT/GRE (Take home) exam scores are not valid. Only test center-based GMAT/GRE scores are valid. Candidates should get their GMAT scores officially reported to the Institute using the code: 9CP-HT-94, and GRE scores officially reported to the Institute using the code: 7496.
Admissions Requirements:
The following conditions may lead to your ineligibility or cancellation of your application (or admission offer) at any stage of the admission process:
- If you have submitted more than one application form.
- Misrepresentation or suppression of any information/data in the application form, including use of unfair means to complete the application form (including plagiarism of content).
- Submission of incomplete application form.
- Informal recommendation/s or canvassing from any individual/s or organization/s (apart from the requirements mentioned in the application form).
- If you do not meet any of the requirements at any stage of the admission process.
- If you have been expelled or withdrawn from any programme of IIM Calcutta prior to submitting your application.
