Bhaskar Chakrabarti, Dean (Academic Programmes)

Professor Bhaskar Chakrabarti holds the position of Dean (Academic Programmes) and is responsible for overseeing the institution's international accreditation efforts and curriculum review for programmes. Educated at Calcutta and Cambridge, he earned an interdisciplinary PhD from the University of British Columbia. Professor Chakrabarti’s work is particularly concerned with the social impact of management education. He is actively engaged with the faculty at IIM Calcutta to advance the institution's global recognition while ensuring its local and national relevance.

Sumanta Basu, Dean (Development and External Relations)

Sumanta Basu is a Professor of Operations Management at IIM Calcutta. He pursues active research and consulting interests in the supply chain, platforms and E-commerce, circular economy, healthcare operations, revenue management, and business analytics applications across business verticals. Sumanta has multiple US patents and research articles in reputed journals, and he is involved in consulting, case writing, and training activities for various public and private enterprises, including the Government of India. He held multiple administrative positions like CAT Convener and Chairperson of PGPEX-VLMP, Admissions, and Students Affairs before being appointed Dean of Development and External Relations at IIM Calcutta in 2024.

Sumanta joined IIM Calcutta in 2010 in the Operations Management group. He holds a doctoral degree in Production and Quantitative Methods from IIM Ahmedabad. Before joining IIM Calcutta, he was in XLRI, Jamshedpur, as a faculty member and was a consultant in Wipro Technologies.

R Rajesh Babu, Dean (Executive Education)

Prof. R. Rajesh Babu is a Professor of Public Policy and Management at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC). He has over 20 years of experience as a lawyer, researcher, and educator in the fields of law and public policy, with a focus on international economic law, legal strategy and dispute settlement. Prof. Rajesh is a globally recognized scholar and practitioner, who has been a visiting fellow, a post-doctoral scholar, and a fellow at prestigious institutions in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Before joining IIM Calcutta, Rajesh served as Senior Legal Officer (2002-2009) in the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), New Delhi an inter-governmental organization (IGO) that represents Asian and African States and also briefly practised law. He obtained his PhD and MPhil in International Law from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi and holds an LL.M. in Comparative Constitutional Law. He is currently the Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Foundation for Development of International Law in Asia (DILA) and a Board Member of the Nuclear Law Association of India (NLAI). He has also served on the Board of IIM Calcutta. He is passionate about advancing the understanding and practice of law and public policy in Asia and beyond, and empowering the next generation of leaders and professionals with the skills and knowledge to navigate the complex and dynamic global environment.

Peeyush Mehta, Dean (Faculty & Research)

Peeyush Mehta is a professor in the Operations Management area at Indian Institute of Management Calcutta since November 2011. During 2005 – 2011, he was a faculty in the Department of Industrial & Management Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He obtained his doctoral degree from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. Peeyush worked as a Post-Doctoral Research fellow at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. After obtaining his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical from Jodhpur University, he worked in industry for three years in Power sector operations.

Peeyush’s research interests are in the areas of operations strategy, supply chain coordination, supply contracts, manufacturing competitiveness, and game theory applications in operations. His research has been published in scholarly journals such as European Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, Computers and Operations Research. At IIM Calcutta, he teaches courses on production and operations management, supply chain management, manufacturing competitiveness. He has also coordinated and taught in several management development programmes for a wide variety of industries in areas such as supply chain competitiveness, operations excellence, and general management programmes for senior managers.

At IIM Calcutta, he has served in several academic committees and has been the Chairperson of PGPEX-VLM programme, MBA programme. He has also been the Chairperson of Admissions committee and Consultancy and Management Development Programmes (CMDP) committee.
