What is Executive Education Programme?

The Executive Education Programmes at IIMC popularly known as MDPs (Management Development Programmes) are designed with the objective of providing practicing managers:

a) insight into managerial concepts and implementing strategies in functional areas.

b) a overall perspective for decision making by integrating functional and general management approaches.

IIMC has been active in designing MDPs on contemporary topics to bring the latest in management discipline to practicing managers. It offers several highly rated MDPs focussed on functional and sectoral areas.

How do I apply for admission to a Programme?

There are three ways to apply : online, through e-mail and by post / courier / fax.

Is the programme brochure available on the Net? How do I download it?

The brochures of all the executive education programmes are available online. Please open the programme of your choice, copy the brochure thereafter, and paste it in a MS-WORD file.Please note that brochures are usually available two months before start of programme.

Who can apply for admission to a Programme?

The brochure of each programme provides information about the likely profile of the participant and for whom the programme is designed. The applications received are reviewed to select the participant mix with the objective to maximize the benefits of the programme to the entire group of participants. Participants’ education, experience, organization and current job roles are some of the factors, which are taken into consideration during application review.

Where are the programmes held?

IIMC’s executive education programmes are generally conducted on its lush green and serene campus in Joka, Kolkata and some of the programmes are held off campus also.

How can I get to the IIMC Campus?

The IIMC campus is at Joka, about 35 kms from Kolkata airport and 20 kms from Howrah / Sealdah railway station. On arrival you can hire a taxi. The fare from the airport to IIMC is about Rs 300. It is about Rs 200 from Howrah station. IIMC does not make any transportation arrangement for participants.

What can you tell me about Kolkata city?

Kolkata, one of the largest cities of India, is rich in cultural values and traditions. In addition to IIMC, Kolkata boasts of a number of exceptional academic and research institutes such as Indian Statistical Institue, Jadavpur University, Bengal Engineering & Science University, Shibpur, Indian Art College, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Jute Research Institute etc.

Are participants required to live on the campus?

Yes, for the residential programmes the participants are required to live on campus. There is an air-conditioned executive hostel that has all the facilities you need. Stay on the campus is essential because the teaching methodolgy involves group exercises, role-plays, simulation games, lecture-cum-discussions, presentations, and case analysis at group and class level. The learning starts at around nine in the morning and continues beyond the classrooms into the late hours of the night.

How about early check-in and extended stay?

Participants can check in the day before the start of the programme in the evening and are required to check out in the afternoon by 4 P.M. the day the programme gets over. Early check-ins and later check-outs are possible against additional cash payment, provided accommodation is available. Check-in time is 6 p.m. and check-out time is 4 p.m., except under emergency situations. All rooms are single-occupancy, and twin-sharing is not allowed in Tata Hall.

What facilities do you offer at the IIMC campus?

Management Development Centre at Tata Hall, the venue for the executive education programmes, provides a quiet and intellectual environment. Its location on the IIMC campus encourages and facilitates interaction between participants and the faculty.

Tata Hall has 56 furnished air-conditioned living rooms. Each room is provided with telephones and round-the-clock service. PC Lounge provides network connections for access to Internet and IIMC’s Intranet. The Centre also has a business lounge with giant-screen television, classrooms, syndicate rooms and a computer lab with Internet facility. Participants also have access to facilities for indoor and outdoor games on the campus.

The participants can make STD/ISD calls from Reception of Tata Hall against cash payment against receipt.

IIMC Library is an invaluable resource with close to 180,000 volumes, 600 current periodicals, 700 CDs and more than 2000 working papers and dissertations. It also provides indexing search services from a number of major databases like EBI/Inform, Econlit and BSP.


The World Wide Web is accessible from all the computers on the campus. Rooms in Tata Hall are WiFi compatible.

Other facilities

Other facilities on the campus include SBI ATM and extension counter, ICICI Bank ATM, post office, gymnasium, walking/jogging trails, and a dispensary.

Special Diets

The programme fee is inclusive of all meals. We do our best to help participants with special dietary requirements provided they let us know in advance.


The participants can have access to several outdoor and indoor games.

Do I get a certificate at the end of Programme?

Yes, you will get a certificate of participation on successful completion of the programme.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. It is business casual attire for classes and informal dress for the rest of the time. You can wear appropriate attire for sports.

What is the Teaching Methodology you follow for executive education programmes?

Pedagogical tools are matched to the needs of individual programmes and emphasize active participation rather than passive assimilation. The case method of study is the major tool. It is supplemented by group exercises, role plays, games, lecture-cum-discussions and presentations by participants.

What is the usual class size?

The size varies between 25 and 30 participants. In some exceptional cases the size could be smaller or slightly bigger.

A typical programme day starts at 09.00 hrs and goes on to 18.00 hrs. Classes involving the Faculty are generally in the mornings; group exercises and preparation for the following day’s classes generally take place in the afternoons and evenings.

Is sponsorship required for my application to be considered?

Yes. Sponsorship is normally required. In some cases it may be relaxed. Please check with the In - charge CMDP or the Director of the programme you wish to attend if you have difficulty getting sponsorship.

What does the programme fee include?

The programme fee includes single-occupancy on-campus accommodation, standard meals, and all programme materials.

Incidentals, such as laundry, entertainment, phone bills, and the like, are not included in the programme fee.

When do I pay the fees?

The payment should be made once you receive provisional confirmation that you have been admitted to the programme. It should reach us at least three weeks before the start of the programme, in order to be eligible for the registration.

How do I pay?

Please pay by demand draft/at-par cheque drawn in favour of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and payable in Kolkata. Cheques from other places are not acceptable if they are not payable at par at Kolkata.

What if I am unable to attend the programme I applied for?

If you are unable to attend the programme for some reason, as per our norms the fees will not be refunded but the amount will be in credit in favour of your organisation for utilisation against fees for any future MDP during the same financial year or next financial year.

What if I have Disabilities?

Participants with disabilities should contact us in advance for specific requirements.

What about my Health Insurance during the programme?

IIMC is not responsible for medical fees incurred by the participant during the stay at IIMC. We request you to enquire with your employer or insurer for Health Insurance coverage.

What about safety of my belonging during the programme stay?

Individuals are provided with safe keeping facilities during the programme stay. Please do not leave your valuables and cash unprotected. IIMC is not responsible for any loss of personal property. Please notify In - charge CMDP immediately in case of any problem in this or other areas.
