Here follows a rather light-hearted and hopefully, quirky comparison between IIT Bombay and IIM Calcutta.
Hostels: As I arrived at Joka, an ignorant fresher, I was delighted to have been allotted the New Hostel. It was only later I realised that it had been “new” some decades back but the name had stuck. Nonetheless, even the most modest hostel here in terms of infrastructure still beats the best UG hostels of IIT Bombay. There are no 2 ways about it. But on the upside, hostel feelings and rivalries run stronger in the hostels on the West coast. Part of the reason obviously being a 4 year stay there compared to a 2 year one here. And also that perhaps undergraduates are more prone to indulge in idling away time than business school students? Open to debate...

People ask, 'What is the use of climbing Mount Everest?' Let me tell you this, 'It is of no use.' There is not the slightest prospect of any gain whatsoever. Oh, we may learn a little about the behavior of the human body at high altitudes, and possibly medical men may turn our observation to some account for aviation. But otherwise, nothing will come of it...

Two months into B-school and one mid-term later, I feel exhausted! Exhausted with the Quizzes, the CV making, the network I’m supposed to build but hadn’t quite gotten there yet feeling; the template everyone wants you to fit in, the immense competition with the best minds in the country…the list could go on!
Amidst all this hullabaloo of assignments and case studies and low grades in Quizzes, a faint voice inside my head asks- WHY? ...

Passion.
That dreadful word. The word we hear over, and over, and over again: from TED speakers, from condescending uncles, from recruiting companies, from motivational coaches, from successful leaders.
Many of us born in the 1990s and onwards will go through a mid-life crisis – in our twenties. ...

Walking down memory lane,
I recall the day we fought,
Never in my dreams I thought,
It will come to this bane;
All around me spread a Sylvan aura,
My feet swollen from a journey led in vain.
I lost my love, I lost my care,
The morning you weren’t there.
Trembled as I travelled to your final place,
Finding it difficult to keep up the pace,
My dreams, my hopes, my fair share,
Were taken aback by a moment of despair;
Under the sway of sorrow,
I took my steps with (great) pain....
