IIM Calcutta to augment its infrastructure
The institute aims to become an international center of excellence with high global rankings in management education, research, and practice. To achieve this, collaboration with national and international institutions is crucial in order to develop global networks. The goal is to attract a significant number of international scholars to the campus, making it essential to upgrade the infrastructure to maintain a competitive edge on both the national and global stage. Therefore, infrastructure norms such as achieving carbon neutrality and efficiently supporting and utilizing digital technologies are now essential requirements.
In light of the above, the institute urgently needs to construct new/additional hostel and academic blocks to fulfill its vision and mission, while simultaneously replacing the old hostels.
The proposed hostel building, service building, and substation building will be a G+9 storied building with a built-up area of 32556 sq.m, consisting of 726 rooms with common washrooms, 200 rooms with attached washrooms, and all modern amenities, aiming to secure a GRIHA 5 Star rating at a proposed cost of ₹245.88 Crore.
The work has been designed by Architect Hafeez Contractor through the CPWD and is envisioned to be completed within 2 years.
To mark the commencement of this significant endeavor, the event was held in virtual mode on 31 January 2024. Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, the Hon’ble Education Minister, virtually laid the foundation stone from Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi. The Bhumi Puja Ceremony was also held to seek divine blessings for the project’s success.
