G20 University Connect Engaging Young Minds series at IIM Calcutta


The main objective of the event “Homecoming – an annual MBAEx alumni event,” is to bring earlier batches of alumni together to reflect on their journey post-completion of the MBAEx program and share their experience with the current batch. This helps us to understand how the program has traversed since its inception in 2006. This union also aims to bring the program alumni together, in an attempt to learn from their experiences, cherish the success of one another and put the best foot forward to build the future of the MBAEx program.

The highlights of the event were lectures by distinguished speakers:

  • Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan - founder, current Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Rediff.com, an internet company based in Mumbai. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIM Calcutta for two five-year terms from April 2006 to March 2016.
  • Professor Partha Ray - Director of the National Institute of Bank Management and former Professor of Economics of IIM Calcutta.
  • Professor Biju Paul Abraham - Professor of Public Policy and Management at IIM Calcutta since July 1996. He has served as Dean (Academic) in IIM Calcutta from April 2015 to March 2018. He was also a member, Board of Governors from April 2012 to March 2014.

Mr. Balakrishnan spoke about Disaggregation-Digitization-Disintermediation in the technology world, while Professor Partha Ray's talk was based upon India's journey towards the path of $5 trillion economy. Prof Biju Paul Abraham who also happened to be the Chairperson for batch 3, spoke about the initial years of the MBAEx (earlier known as PGPEX) programme and its gradual evolvement. Cricket matches were held with the alumni and their families in the afternoon followed by an evening of bonding.
